Citizen-centered SDGs project aqua spot "swee" installed for the reduction of single-use plastic PET bottles

Nagano, Japan — A joint press conference was held on Monday, Nov 15th by Shinshu University and Matsumoto City for the announcement of "swee"; a joint SDGs project launched to help citizens achieve a plastic-free society.
"swee" is an abbreviation for Shinshu Water for Ecology and Environment, clean water dispensing aqua spots produced with Shindai Crystal* open and available free of charge to the public. Shinshu University is promoting the establishment of the aqua spot "swee" as a place where local citizens and tourists alike can think about reducing the use of PET bottles. The project intends to contribute to a society free of plastic waste and achievement of SDGs simply through the enjoyment of drinking delicious water.
Five locations were announced at the press conference, including the Matsumoto Campus Kiko Lounge, the Nagano Engineering Campus Library, Matsumoto City Hall, Nagano City Hall, and Matsumoto Tourist Information Center. By Thursday, November 25, three more locations at Tourist Information Center at Matsumoto JR station, Shinshu Matsumoto Airport, and Norikura Tourist Center have been installed.
Matsumoto City furnished the aqua spots with the hope to inspire positive action of citizens to carry their own reusable water bottle for the benefit of enjoying delicious water. The installation of the aqua spot "swee", which provides water improved with Shindai Crystal, is a helpful step in the right direction.
This project was made possible by the "Shinshu-type regional innovation ecosystem by the industrial implementation of innovative inorganic crystalline materials" implemented by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology's "Regional Innovation Ecosystem Formation Program". This is an example of social implementation of the high-performance "Shindai Crystal" through the use of environmentally friendly original technology the "Flux Method".
