On March 18, 2025, Shinshu University participated in a reception held at the Iikura Guest House of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan. This reception was co-hosted by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Governor of Nagano Prefecture as part of the “Regional Revitalization Support Project Utilizing the Iikura Guest House for External Communication.” The event aimed to showcase the diverse attractions of Nagano Prefecture, such as tourism, culture, food, education, and so on. About 210 participants attended, including members of the diplomatic corps and representatives of foreign chambers of commerce in Japan. Shinshu University set up a booth to highlight its unique features and water-related research.
At the booth, we introduced our initiatives through an English-language video about the university, as well as posters, videos, and material samples related to the Aqua Regeneration research. In the contexts of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), we showcased the latest water purification technology for sustainable water resource management, as well as green hydrogen generation technology using an artificial photosynthesis system for a decarbonized society. Diplomats from Asia, Africa, and the Pacific, where water resource management and energy security are critical issues, showed great interest in our research.
At the reception, we served water purified using a filter developed by Shinshu University, and many participants enjoyed experiencing our research results firsthand.
This event provided a valuable opportunity to promote the university's research to the international community. Under the Vision for Greater Shinshu University (VGSU) initiative, Shinshu University is working to connect the local community with the world by increasing the number of foreign faculty members and international students, expanding English-taught education programs, and strengthening international partnerships. Through research and educational activities that contribute to the achievement of the SDGs, Shinshu University aims to create value as a knowledge center not only for the region, but also for the world.
