2023 Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) program with Faculty of Animal Science, University of Brawijaya (Indonesia)
We are excited to share the success of the third Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) program between our Faculty of Agriculture and the esteemed Faculty of Animal Science, University of Brawijaya, Indonesia. The program, which unfolded from September 29 to October 27, 2023, marked another milestone in our ongoing commitment to global collaboration and cross-cultural education.
A total of 40 students participated in this enriching experience, with 14 representing our Faculty. Under the theme "Asian Food Culture: A Focus on Meat and Meat Products," participants were organized into eight groups, embarking on a journey of collaborative learning and cultural exchange.
The program structure included on-demand lectures on food culture in Bangladesh and Jordan, complemented by engaging discussions. Participants honed their skills in information gathering, opinion exchange, presentation creation, and collaborative practices, culminating in joint presentations. The final presentations centered on Meat and Meat products, offering a comparative analysis of the history, production methods, and challenges faced in Japan and Indonesia. The program concluded with a series of presentations on the final day, highlighting the peak of weeks of dedicated effort and cross-cultural exploration.
Feedback from participating students has been positive, reflecting the transformative nature of the experience. Students expressed the challenges of language barriers, but more importantly, they highlighted the joy and excitement in successfully conveying intentions and achieving mutual understanding. This invaluable experience not only seems to have improved their English communication skills but also deepened their appreciation for cultural diversity.
This successful collaboration exemplifies our commitment to fostering global perspectives and providing transformative educational experiences for our students. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the University of Brawijaya, for their partnership and collaborative spirit.
As we celebrate this achievement, we eagerly anticipate future collaborations that will continue to enrich the educational journeys of our students. Stay tuned for more updates on our global initiatives!
