Welcoming Professor NURUL ALAM to Shinshu University Faculty of Agriculture

On July 5, 2024, we were honored to welcome Professor Nurul Alam from Texas A&M University-Texarkana (TAMUT), USA, to our campus. This visit marked a significant event in our ongoing academic collaboration with TAMUT.

Professor Alam, an esteemed alumnus of our university, completed his master's degree at Shinshu University and his doctoral degree at the United Graduate School Gifu University / Shinshu University. Following his postdoctoral research in Canada, he has been teaching biology at TAMUT.

Since 2022, Texas A&M University-Texarkana and Shinshu University Faculty of Agriculture have successfully conducted three Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) programs. During his visit, Professor Alam engaged in discussions with the Dean and relevant faculty members, exploring future prospects for the COIL program and the possibility of mutual student exchanges.

Professor Alam also took a nostalgic tour of the Ina Campus, recalling his time here as a student. This was followed by a Teatime Discussion with students and international students who have participated in the COIL program. The session began with Professor Alam's warm greeting in fluent Japanese. Following this, a representative from the NoBorder club (a student circle dedicated to fostering international interactions between Japanese and international students) introduced the current international activities taking place at Ina Campus. The relaxed atmosphere during the Q&A session encouraged students to actively ask Professor Alam questions about the differences in education between Bangladesh, Japan, Canada, and the United States. He offered valuable advice on their future research and academic attitudes.

Professor Alam also visited several laboratories on campus to observe recent research topics and developments, showcasing the innovative work being done at the Faculty of Agriculture.

We look forward to continuing our fruitful exchange with Texas A&M University-Texarkana, strengthening our academic collaboration and mutual understanding.

Stay tuned for more updates on our international collaborations and academic initiatives.
