Shinshu University invites applications for an Associate Professor or Tenure-Track Assistant Professor Position in the field of Field Data Science at Shinshu University Faculty of Agriculture.

I. Job Description
1. Number of Positions: One Associate Professor or Assistant Professor (Tenure-Track)
2. Workplace: Faculty of Agriculture, Shinshu University, 8304 Minamiminowa-Village, Kamiina-County, Nagano

3. Employment and Benefits:
The salary will depend on the experiences as stipulated in the regulations of Shinshu University. Health insurance, mutual pension, employment insurance, and occupational injury insurance will be available. As for an Assistant Professor (Tenure-Track), five-year tenure-track appointment starts from the date of the appointment.
4. Research field: Field Data Science
Particularly, the field of horticultural crop development using data science.
5. Qualifications: Applicants should have
(1) A doctoral degree or expecting to receive a doctoral degree by starting date of the job.
(2) Much research experience in field cultivation of horticultural crops (excluding fruit trees), and knowledge and experience in crop development using data science, such as transcriptome analysis, QTL analysis, GWAS, and genomic and phenomic prediction.
(3) Ability and willingness to pursue activities of education, research and human resource development, so as to contribute to the development of the field described above.
(4) Ability and willingness to contribute to the regional development through the activities in the field described above.
(5) Strong willingness to write successful grant applications and to carry out social and international academic activities.
6. Job Responsibility:
(1) Research: Developing distinctive research focusing on the following issue. Development of horticultural crops (excluding fruit trees) utilizing data science (ex. transcriptome analysis, QTL analysis, GWAS, and genomic and phenomic prediction) and their application to field crop production.
(2) Teaching of undergraduate and graduate level courses broadly related to the research field as below.
Faculty (Food Production Systems Science)
Introduction to Agricultural Data Science (newly established subject), Exercises in Agricultural Data Science (newly established subject), Vegetable and ornamental horticulture, Statistics for Biology, Introduction to Food Production Systems Science, Thesis Research I-III, etc.
Graduate School (Master's Course: Bioresource Science Division)
Advanced Lecture in Plant science I & II, Advanced Lecture in Food, Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, Advanced Seminar for Plant Science I & II, Advanced Experimental Course on Plant Science and Technology, etc.
(3) Administrative and service works
7. Term of Office
Associate Professor: Permanent employment
Retirement age: 65
Retirement date: First March 31 after reaching retirement age
Assistant Professor (Tenure-Track): 5 years
In the final year of appointment, the researcher's achievements in research, teaching and administrative responsibility during the period will be evaluated. On passing the evaluation, the employment will become tenured appointment starting November 1, 2030. The details of the evaluation will be explained at the time of interview.
8. Selection Procedure: The selection will be made based on the application materials and personal interview. Japanese language skill is not a prerequisite for the selection but will be required for tenure appointment.
