With the support of the doctors of Sho-ikai, the alumni association of the Shinshu University School of Medicine, the Sho-ikai Study Abroad Scholarship was launched in December 2021 to widely support international exchange activities and study abroad at the Faculty of Medicine. In September 2022, six fifth-year medical students underwent a three-month overseas basic research training, and four received scholarships from the Sho-ikai. On January 19, 2023, six students reported their return to Shinshu University at the Board of Directors meeting of the Sho-ikai.
It was a hybrid meeting of in-person and online. Some of the students gave presentations in English, and the members in attendance were very impressed. Three people from the Technical University of Dresden Medical School also participated and talked about the differences between the medical system and medical education in Germany and Japan. Emeritus Prof. KUBO Keishi, President of the Sho-ikai Association, Vice President Dr. YOSHIOKA Jiro, and Board Member Prof. KOMATSU Mitsuhisa, and many other doctors asked many questions. The members in attendance commented, "I was proud of my juniors who have worked hard overseas."
We would like to make effective use of the scholarships given by the senior doctors of Sho-ikai Association and have even more students study abroad. In the long term, I expect that this will lead to the internationalization of the medical community at Shinshu University School of Medicine and Japan. We will continue to deepen exchanges between the doctors of Sho-ikai and students and create opportunities to receive advice from seniors. We look forward to your continued support.
