Hebei Medical University delegation visits Shinshu University School of Medicine

Hebei Medical University (HMU) in China and Shinshu University School of Medicine have been reinforcing their international partnership through joint research and exchange of researchers and students since the establishment of an inter-institutional academic agreement in 1986. So far, more than one hundred HMU graduates have obtained higher degrees at Shinshu University Graduate School of Medicine. In addition, satellite offices were opened at HMU in 2019 and at Shinshu University School of Medicine in 2021.

On June 20, 2024, a four-member delegation led by Prof. Zhai Haihun of HMU visited Shinshu University School of Medicine to have talks with members of Shinshu University School of Medicine including the Dean, Prof. OKUYAMA Ryuhei and Prof. TANAKA Naoki (Department of Global Medical Research Promotion). After a presentation by Prof. Tanaka, who is in charge of international exchange, on medical education and international exchange activities at Shinshu University School of Medicine, they updated each other on the situation surrounding medicine education. Furthermore, they discussed on future plans of their activities, mentioning the long-standing history of exchange between HMU and Shinshu University School of Medicine.

The delegation then paid courtesy calls to the President, NAKAMURA Soichiro, as well as the director of Shinshu University Hospital, Prof. HANAOKA Masayuki, and they become better acquainted with one another in a friendly atmosphere.

In the afternoon, after listening to the lectures by Dr. Yue Fengming, a graduate of HMU and Dr. Lu Yu, the delegation had opportunity to meet with 8 HMU students studying at Shinshu University School of Medicine and engaged in lively conversation.

At the end of the visit, a buffet party with Chinese and Japanese students was held, enjoying some delicious Japanese food and conversation.

This visit added a new page to the history of collaboration between the two universities. We would like to continue to actively accept students and researchers from HMU and accelerate joint research.
