The 4th Online Joint Seminar" PhD Course" Was Held with the University of Trieste in 2024
25.01.23
On September 16, 2024, Shinshu University School of Medicine held an online joint seminar "PhD course in Precision Medicine and Innovative Therapy" with the University of Trieste, one of our partner universities, in cooperation with Institute for Biomedical Sciences (IBS) at Shinshu University.
Twenty graduate students and faculty members from Shinshu University and forty of those from the University of Trieste participated in the seminar, which marked the fourth time, on "Amyloidosis" and "Application of AI in Gastroenterology".
Following opening remarks by Professor Gabriele Stocco of the University of Trieste who is a Specially Appointed Professor of IBS, Professor SEKIJIMA Yoshiki of the Department of Medicine (Neurology & Rheumatology) delivered a lecture "Common Diseases of the 21st Century-Amyloidosis" including the latest knowledge related to diagnosis and treatment for amyloidosis, especially about the development of siRNA-based drug. Under the title of "Using AI for Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Steatotic Liver Disease -from Small Data to Big Data-", Dr. WAKABAYASHI Shun-ichi of the Division of Gastroenterology spoke about AI-based big data analysis for diagnosis and prognostic prediction of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease. The participants from the two universities listened intently to the lectures, which was followed by a lively question-and-answer session.
The participants from the University of Trieste included Nanako Aoki, a fifth-year Shinshu medical student, who had joined the 3-month exchange program in September 2024 and engaged in basic research at that time. Nanako learned a lot about the research that is being undertaken in the two universities, and I'm sure the motivation for her own research was increased by this experience.
I hope that the seminar we held this time will promote joint research and researcher and student exchanges between Shinshu University and the University of Trieste.
