This department also develops leading human resources who have original research capabilities for developing leading engineering technologies in the science field by using fundamental scientific abilities, and have high-level research capabilities for leading societies capable of sustainable development in the international community.
Degree:MASTER of SCIENCE
This department fosters scientists and highly professional human resources who can unravel and understand natural physical substances and phenomena, discover and create unknown substances and phenomena based on their knowledge, and make global contributions for a sustainable environment and societies. For this purpose, this department has the following ideas regarding its education and research philosophy:
The education and research targets of this department are to provide more advanced knowledge and technologies, critical thinking, and wide development capabilities, through leading-edge fundamental research in the rich natural environment of Shinshu.
Creative research and development capabilities with wide knowledge of mathematics, physics, chemistry, earth science, biology, and environmental science, and with good ethics
Global technology application capabilities with deep knowledge based on scientific professional expertise, and with critical thinking and expressive power
Faculty members, public officers, various company employees (education, steel industry, general machinery and tool industry, precision machinery and tool industry, electric machinery and tool industry, electronic parts and devices industry, information equipment industry, medical equipment industry, software industry, chemical industry, chemical agent and drug industry, food industry, regional development industry, civil engineering, disaster prevention and recovery industry, environment industry, finance and insurance industry, service industry, etc.), medical institution employees, and entering further education (graduate-school doctoral course)
The target of the Department of Science is to provide advanced technical knowledge, research techniques, and problem-solving capabilities required for becoming advanced professionals, researchers, etc., based on the natural science education acquired from the baccalaureate degree program. For this purpose, the education curriculum consisting of lectures and exercises is supplied mainly for research activities in various fields such as mathematics, physics, chemistry, earth science, biology, and environmental science.
The students will acquire advanced professional knowledge through lectures in the relevant professional fields and exercises mainly through reading academic documents, and will take lecture courses of both the common subjects of the graduate school and department and subjects of other related fields, in order to deepen interdisciplinary knowledge. The students will also acquire practical research techniques for observation, experiments, simulation, theory, consideration, presentation, article writing, etc., through special research related to thesis themes and advanced by careful guidance and discussions with the lecturers. The acquired research results will be given back to communities as far as possible through posting in academic journals or presenting the results inside and outside the university. The above activities will foster students’ research capabilities and enhance their abilities to produce results by themselves.
The department of science will grant a degree to the students who have acquired the following knowledge and capabilities, and the knowledge and capabilities satisfying the degree-granting policy determined for each field and unit, according to the graduate school and this department:
