Collected plant resources such as buckwheat, chili pepper and so on, including their wild relatives are being investigated in a phylogenetic study and evaluated as breeding materials.Breeding research using the latest methods of biotechnology is a major research effort. For example, interspecific hybridization using embryo/ovule culture, expression analysis of specific gene and development of DNA markers linked with desired genes for marker assisted selection are being advanced in buckwheat and chili pepper.Breeding of sorghum Dand ryeShigemitsuKASUGAProfessor,Ph.D.Kenichi MATSUSHIMAAssociate Professor, Ph.D.Left; Interspecific hybrid of chili pepper using embryo Cculture technique.Right; New variety of chili pepper developed for rural area.
