Electrical& ComputerElectrical& ComputerElectrical& ComputerNowadays,tabletPCsandsmartphonesareusedeverywhereandareequippedwithtouchscreenandpendevices.Inmylaboratory,wehavedevelopedapplicationsoftwarewhichfunctionsbyusingtheseinterfaces.Forexample,intheirapplications,objectshandwrittenwithapendevicecanbesequentiallyrecognized,arranged,andoutputtedbyacomputerautomatically.WecollaboratecloselywithProf.Maruyama’sgroupandDr.Shirai’sgroup,sopleaserefertotheirdescriptionofhislaboratories.PowermanagementcircuitsincludingDC-DCswitchingregulators,AC-DCconvertersaremandatoryelementsinelectronicdevices.Requirementsforhighefficiencyandhigh-powerdensityinthesecircuitsaregettingevenmorecriticaltorealizenewapplicationsandsystemslikeEV,sensornetwork,andmedicalimplants.Weareapproachingtothesenewchallengesbycollaboratingwithmixedsignalintegratedcircuitdesign,newdevicetechnologiesincludingmagneticdevicesandGaNFETs,and3D-packagingtechnologies.Weareplanningtoconstructanenvironmenttoenhancehumancreativitybycomputer.Forexample,whenauserwritesanoteoramusicsymbol,thecomputercreatesitonthescreenwithoutinterruptingtheflowoftheuser’sthoughtsbyusingautomaticsymbolrecognitiontechniques.Aboutthehalfofthealumniandalumnaegoontograduateschools,andtheotherhalfworkinindustriesassoftwaredevelopers,systemengineers,etc,usingtheirexperiencesinmylaboratory.Atnearfuture,manyservicestoimproveourQoLwillbeprovidedbyacquiringbigdatafromlargesensornetworksandanalyzingthemathugedatacenters.Ourresearchwillcontributetorealizingbattery-lesssensorsthatoperateforalongtermandagreendatacenter,wherecurrentdatacenterconsumespowerasmuchasanuclearpowerplant.Applicationstominimallyinvasivemedicalimplantdevicesarealsoexpected.Integratedcircuitisoneofthemostgeneralandbasictechnologies.Acquiringskillsofintegratedcircuitdesignwillhelpgettingjobsinmostoftheindustriesinengineeringaswellastraditionalelectric/electronicmanufacturers.railwayandmedicalcompaniesrecruitcircuitdesignersastheirsystemsareusingsomanyintegratedcircuits.Infact,someautomotive,Handwritten flowchart recognition system and handwritten music score recognition system with a pen device.Similar image search system by using a touch interface on a smartphone.Hidetoshi MiyaoAssociateProfessorHe received the Ph.D. from Shinshu University in 1997.
