Mechanical Systems EngineeringMechanical Systems Mechanical Systems EngineeringMechanical Systems Inourlaboratory,complexfluidflowswithheat/masstransferarestudiedbynumericalsimulations.Recently,thankstodevelopmentofefficientnumericalmethodsandgreatadvanceincomputers,wehavebeenabletoinvestigateso-calledmicrofluidicsmoreaccurately.Inparticular,thelatticeBoltzmannmethod(LBM)isapowerfulnumericalscheme,andmultiphasefluidflowssuchasdropletcollisiondynamicsandbubbleflowsaresimulatedbythetwo-phaseLBM.Westudy“solarenergy”,“absorptionrefrigerator”and“icestoragesystems”forefficientuserofenergyandenergyconservation.Solarenergywillbemoreimportantinfuturesociety.Absorptionrefrigeratorutilizewasteheatreducingelectricenergyconsumption.Icestoragesystemsstoreandreuseexcesselectricity.Wecanrealizeenergysavingsbythesetechnologiesthatenabletheefficientuseofenergy.Inmostcompanies,acommercialsoftwareisusuallyusedforquicksolutionoffluidflowproblems.Sometimes,however,actualcomplicatedphenomenaespeciallyinthemicrofluidicsarenotaccuratelysimulatedbyacommercialsoftware.Inthefuture,wehopethatourdevelopedcodebasedontheLBMwillbecomeausefulsolvingcomplicatedproblemsinmultiphasefluidflows.toolforStudentsinourlaboratorymainlygointovariousindustries:automobileindustry,consumer-electronicsmaker,heavyindustry,precisionequipmentmaker,andsoon.Prof.Yoshinowouldlikethemtoopenanewfrontierindustriesasamechanicalengineer.inmanykindsofOurresearchwillhelpresolvingtoday’sseriousenvironmentalproblemssuchasenergydepletionandambientpollution.Wehavetosaveenergyandreduceemissionsofpollutantssuchasgreenhousegases.Efficientenergyconservationachievedfromthetechnologiessuchasabsorptionrefrigerators,icestoragesystemsandheatpumpswillenrichourlives.useofStudentsacquireengineeringskillsbyworkingonheattransferandthermalengineeringexperimentsinourlaboratory.Iexpecttheywillleadthedevelopmentofnewtechnologiesandaccomplishgreatworksinthewidefieldofengineering.energyandExamples of simulated results: liquid-liquid two-phase slug flow in a microchannel (upper left); red blood cells passing through a throat (lower left); distribution of wall shear stress around a cerebral aneurysm at bifurcations (right).Experiment apparatus for study on efficient utilization of solar energy by using solar cell and thermal collector.Under discussion on simulated results among professors and graduate students in our lab.
