A controller chip designed by our lab is flip-mounted on the interposer with an embedded magnetic inductor fabricated by Sato-Soneharalab.PowermanagementcircuitsincludingDC-DCswitchingregulators,AC-DCconvertersaremandatoryelementsinelectronicdevices.Requirementsforhighefficiencyandhigh-powerdensityinthesecircuitsaregettingevenmorecriticaltorealizenewapplicationsandsystemslikeEV,sensornetwork,andmedicalimplants.Weareapproachingtothesenewchallengesbycollaboratingwithpowermanagementintegratedcircuitdesign,newdevicetechnologiesincludingmagneticdevicesandGaNFETs,and3D-packagingtechnologies.Ourresearchisfocusedondevelopingultra-fast,high-density,non-volatile,low-power-consumingmemoryandlogicdevicesbasedondirectmanipulationofelectronchargeandspin.Weareparticularlyinterestedincontrollingthespinseitherpointedupordownbydirectlyapplyingelectricalcurrentorvoltage.Ourlaboratoryhasspecializedfacilitiesforfilmdeposition.Lithographyinourlaboratoryhavetheabilitytofabricateelementsassmallasone-thousandththewidthofahumanhair.Wealsohavethefacilitiestocharacterizetheelectricalandmagneticpropertiesofthoseelements.Atnearfuture,manyservicestoimproveourQoLwillbeprovidedbyacquiringbigdatafromlargesensornetworksandanalyzingthemathugedatacenters.Ourresearchwillcontributetorealizingbattery-lesssensorsthatoperateforalongtermandagreendatacenter,wherecurrentdatacenterconsumespowerasmuchasanuclearpowerplant.Applicationstominimallyinvasivemedicalimplantdevicesarealsoexpected.Integratedcircuitisoneofthemostgeneralandbasictechnologies.Acquiringskillsofintegratedcircuitdesignwillhelpgettingjobsinmostoftheindustriesinengineeringaswellastraditionalelectric/electronicmanufacturers.railwayandmedicalcompaniesrecruitcircuitdesignersastheirsystemsareusingsomanyintegratedcircuits.Memoryandlogicalelementsarefundamentaldevicesforprocessinginformation.Currentmemoriesandlogicelementsarebasedonelectricalcharge.Withtheincreaseofcapacityanddensityofthedevices,leakagebecameanissue.Spintronicsexploitsboththeintrinsicspinandassociatedmagneticmomentofanelectron,andhasapotentialforthedevelopmentofmemoryandlogicaldevicesbeyondthecurrentCOMStechnologies.Around50%ofourundergraduatestudentsmovedontograduateschools.Someareworkingincompaniesthatspecializedinelectronicsystemordevices,andsomeareworkingasgovernmentemployees,et.al.Itisourgoaltofostercreativeandexcellentstudentswithglobalminds.Infact,someautomotive,AtomicforcemicroscopyimagesofnanolithographycarriedoutinourLabMagneticskyrmionsdrivingbyelectricfield.NanoLett.,2019,19(1),pp353–361,DOI:10.1021/acs.nanolett.8b03983.LayoutChip photoIntegrated Power ManagementCircuitDesignGreen IoT Based on Electron Spin
