Prof. Tetsuo Nomiyama

Thank you for visiting our HP. Department of Preventive Medicine and Public Health Shinshu University School of Medicine is in charge of hygiene and public health. Our department started in 1944 and then I am the 6th generation professor. "Hygiene" is a study of "to live life", not only it methods by experimental and epidemiological clarifies, but also I take social measures and prevent the illness onset, it's a big purpose. Therefore we aim the education of a high level, a study, the contribution to society.

Education is the basis of our activities in medical schools and graduate schools. We will focus on emphasis on lectures that satisfy the level of knowledge that can foster public health knowledge and minds indispensable to clinical physicians rooted in the community by medical students, and practical training acquired by knowledge. In the graduate school (master's course, doctoral course), hygiene not only human resource development that is responsible for public health, but also doctors and medical personnel engaged in medical treatment in the region and organization use hygiene knowledge and skills such as epidemiology. By doing, I would like to establish a support system so that evidence can be obtained.

The study forms the funduction of our department. I think our study is useful for the society and want to perform the study that is good in th world. We hope to be involved in certain areas of need in Japan and Nagano Prefecture by engaging in the fields of industrial medicine and environmental medicine involved in fundamental experiments and epidemiological research, epidemiological research for investigation of health risk factors in the maternal and child health field, mental health welfare field, infectious disease field, and intervention effects. We also want to actively engage in clinical epidemiology such as elucidation of health risk factors required in clinical practice and judgment of therapeutic effect.

Social contribution is the significance of existence of hygiene, public health, which is social medicine itself. Based on the results obtained at the place of academism as well as the research results we got, we would like to apply it specifically to the actual public health and occupational health scene and to be useful in concrete. Therefore, we would like to act in various places so that we can return to the daily lives of the country, prefecture, municipality, company and citizen group, individuals.

Through the education, a research and contribution to society, we want to make it in environment to be able to spend in good health for all children and adults.
