Debriefing Session of Overseas Basic Research Training Program in Autumn 2024 (The 32nd and 33rd International Seminar)
25.03.31
Nine fifth-year students engaged in basic research at our partner universities abroad for three months from the end of August 2024: eight at Technische Universit?t Dresden in Germany, one at the University of Trieste in Italy. All of them returned to Japan safely after learning and growing a lot with the support of many people, although they might have needed to overcome unexpected challenges.
On the 21st and 28th of January 2025, the nine students shared their study abroad experiences to students and faculty of Shinshu University School of Medicine. Their experiences of immersing themselves in basic research at overseas universities despite the language barrier, will surely be memories that can last a lifetime.
At the end of the seminars, participating younger students had opportunities to talk with the nine fifth-year students and got firsthand information on studying abroad, including its benefits and necessary preparations and so on, which led to their improved motivation.
I would like the nine students to provide advice and support to younger students who is thinking of going abroad while telling them about its benefits and values, in addition to treasure the connections they made during their stay abroad.
Moreover, I hope that the nine students who experienced three months of basic research abroad as part of their curriculum will make the most of the valuable experiences and contribute to the field of medicine with a broad perspective, with the option of going abroad again as a doctor or a researcher in the future.

Last but not least, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Sho-ikai, the alumni association of Shinshu University School of Medicine that supported the nine students by offering a scholarship.
