The 34th International Seminar: Lecture by Dr. Yuri Kim of Harvard Medical School
25.04.04
On March 25, 2025, Dr. Yuri Kim of Brigham and Women's Hospital / Harvard Medical School visited Shinshu University School of Medicine and gave a lecture in the 34th International Seminar, which was held by the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine, in cooperation with Institute for Biomedical Sciences (IBS).
When Dr. Kim was a graduate student, she engaged in research together with Prof. KUWAHARA Koichiro (Department of Cardiovascular Medicine) at Prof. Eric Olson's laboratory, UT Southwestern Medical Center. Dr. Kim subsequently completed postdoctoral research fellowship with Prof. Seidman, leading researchers on heart failure and cardiomyopathy, at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Kim recently started her own laboratory at Brigham and Women's Hospital / Harvard Medical School.
In the seminar, about forty participants including graduate students, undergraduate students, and faculty listened intently to Dr. Kim's clear and easy to understand explanation about genetic variants associated with cardiomyopathy or secondary myocardial diseases, and pathophysiology of heart failure employing gene-modified animals or ATAC-seq, followed by a lively question and answer session.
This seminar provided a valuable opportunity for the participants to learn about cutting-edge research on heart failure. I would like all students who were unable to participate in the seminar to watch its video posted on eALPS and learn about it.
I hope that research exchange between Dr. Kim and Shinshu University School of Medicine will develop through the connection between Dr. Kim and Prof. Kuwahara in the future.
Prof. TANAKA Naoki, Director of International Relations Office and the Department of Global Medical Research Promotion, Shinshu University School of Medicine
