Profile of Departments

Department of Geomorphology, Geology and Disaster Prevention

The Department of Geomorphology, Geology and Disaster Prevention focuses on the process of formation-variation-disappearance in mountain and alpine environments in the Japanese Alps and Himalayans. The department proposes science-based schemes to conserve alpine environments and reduce natural disasters.

  • 1. Mount Nilgiri.
  • 2. Yari-Hotaka Mountain Range.

Message
The mountain building is the long-term geological process measured in several million years. The building of the mountain is a long-term geological process measured in several million years and it causes long-term changes in geographical and climatic patterns. Enhancing the knowledge on the interactions between building mountains and environmental changes is very important. Especially now, climate change and natural disaster are rapidly increasing so human society has to know and should discuss further about the future of the Earth.
We have to develop knowledgeable people for the growth and the future of the earth. Japanese Alps and Himalaya can be a great source for the research especially about mountain science.
