Assistant Professor Keiko Koda of the Institute of Mountain Science of Shinshu University Receives the 3rd Japan Society for the Promotion of Science Ikushi Prize

It was announced at a press conference in Matsumoto Campus on 6th February 2013 that Dr. Keiko Koda, Assistant Professor of the Institute of Mountain Science, was awarded for the 3rd (2012) Japan Society for the Promotion of Science Ikushi Prize. She is the first Ikushi Prize winner in Shinshu University. There are total 16 prize winners selected from 124 candidates in doctoral courses, who were recommended by the deans of universities or academic society groups. The decision was made by the prize committee members including former deans of university.
In Department of Mountain and Environmental Science, Interdisciplinary Graduate School of Science and Technology, Dr. Koda conducted ecological research to conserve and protect lycaenidae butterflies, one of the endangered species inhabiting in satoyama forests. She also teaches nature classes especially focusing on environmental education, and published a children book that the main character is a large shijimi blue butterfly. She won the prize with the recommendation from the Japanese Society of Environmental Entomology and Zoology.
