Assistant Professor Akiko Kamiyoshi of the Graduate School of Medicine Receives Young Investigator Award (YIA) at Meeting of the Japanese Society for Circulation Research

At the 43rd Meeting of the Japanese Society for Circulation Research held at the Kobe International Conference Center on February 15th and 16th, 2014, Assistant Professor Akiko Kamiyoshi of the Department of Cardiovascular Research, Institute of Pathogenesis and Disease Prevention of the Graduate School of Medicine received the Young Investigator Award (YIA) for her presentation entitled “Energy Metabolic Regulation in White and Brown Adipose Tissues by the Adrenomedullin-RAMP2 System”.
The research was an analysis of the function of adrenomedullin (AM) and its receptor activity-modifying protein (RAMP2) on adipocytes. From research using adipocyte-specific RAMP2 knockout mice, she found an important role of AM-RAMP2 system in maintaining the balance between fat accumulation and energy consumption. The result is expected to lead to new treatments for obesity and metabolic syndrome in future.
