At the 21st Japanese Continence Society Meeting held at Okayama City from 17th to 20th September 2014, Professor Osamu Ishizuka of the Urology Class received an award from the Japanese Continence Society (Publication Award). The Japanese Continence Society is a nationwide learned society that has 1,331 members (as of 18th September 2013) that are experts from various fields such as neurology, obstetrics and gynecology, rehabilitation, nursing, physiology, pharmacology, and pharmaceutics, as well as urology.
In the paper for which Professor Ishizuka received the award, it was found from a nationwide survey of 500 elderly patients with benign prostatic hypertrophy at average age of 71 years that nocturia has influences on ED (erectile dysfunction). Nocturia and ED reduce the quality of life and are a problem for many patients. It is considered that the results of this work could be helpful for further research and the development of treatments.
