On April 15, 2015, Professor Hiroyuki Muramatsu of the Technology Education Group, Faculty of Education, received the Commendation for Science and Technology by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. This award was granted in recognition of the many achievements Professor Muramatsu and his research group have made in their “theoretical and practical research and awareness-raising activities concerning intellectual property education.”
In recent years, intellectual property, such as patents and copyright, along with its accompanying creativity, are becoming increasingly important. However, education on the subject of intellectual property is still in its early days. To redress this, Professor Muramatsu and the other members of his research group have been organizing and leading intellectual property research and education seminars throughout Japan for the Intellectual Property Association of Japan (JIPA). Through their initiatives, they have helped promote intellectual property education, scout out issues, nurture ties and further develop the field, creating a network linking researchers and educators. In addition, based on these achievements, the group has published books on theory relating to the nature of intellectual property education along with advanced examples, and has also fostered exchanges among countries, such as international symposiums in China and South Korea.
