A disaster prevention observation team from the Indonesian Ministry of Social Affairs visits Shinshu University's Faculty of Textile Science and Technology

A disaster prevention observation team from the Indonesian Ministry of Social Affairs visited Shinshu University on October 19, 2015. At the Faculty of Textile Science and Technology, Head of Board of Education and Research on Social Welfare Mu’man Nuryana, who headed the observation team, introduced the members of his group, after which Dean of the Faculty of Textile Science and Technology Makoto Shimosaka introduced the faculty to the visitors. This was followed by a lecture from Professor Masaki Yamaguchi (Bioengineering Course) concerning research on stress recovery supporting technologies, and a lecture from Andi Za Dulung, Director General for Social Protection and Security, on initiatives spearheaded by the Ministry of Social Affairs. This was then followed by a visit to the laboratory of Associate Professor Kaoru Wakatsuki (Functional Machinery and Mechanics Course), whose research concerns heatproof suits and firefighting clothes. Director Muman expressed the opinion that, “Salivary stress marker make possible to determine person’s mind and body conditions. The evaluation technology have a potential for utilization at disaster sites in Indonesia,” adding that, “I have great hopes that cooperation with Shinshu University and Japan will help promote education and research on wellness science among the next generation of young people in Indonesia.”
After this, the group moved over to Matsumoto Campus; as they were then visiting Shinshu University Regional Disaster Prevention and Reduction Center, they happened to see an air ambulance taking off, prompting a series of questions such as, “What emergency is it responding to?” “Where is it headed?” During a meeting with Kazuhiro Hongo, Director of Shinshu University Hospital, the group asked questions about the activities and roles of disaster medical assistance teams (DMAT). The group then took a tour of observation around the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, and returned to Indonesia on the 25th of the same month.
