Dr. Kana Kamimura of Shinshu University Faculty of Agriculture succeeded in acquiring data regarding tree failure due to strong winds with an international coalition of researchers. In a world’s first the group elucidated how forests can survive during strong winds to enhance the wind resistance of forests.
Further research is required to understand the wind damage mechanism of forests and trees with various environmental conditions (tree species and compositions, topography, etc.), which will improve forest management methods to reduce the wind damage risk in the changing climate.
This research result was published in the American scientific journal "Science Advances" on March 11, 2022.
