Spring 2023 Thai student from Mahidol University:Clinical training at Dept of Surgery

Name: Ms. Saowanee Insiripong Home institution:Mahidol University Year of university: 4th year student Period:Mar.20 - Apr.15,2023 Training: Clinical training Because of an international exchange program provided by faculty of medicine Ramathibodi hospital Mahidol University, that I was given a chance to discover Shinshu University, a university in partnership with my home university. In Ramathibodi hospital department of surgery, the department comprises of many subdivisions including General or gastrointestinal surgery, hepato-pancreatic-biliary surgery, breast and oncologic surgery and vascular and transplantation surgery. However, many more subspecialties exist but are not part of the medical student's curriculum. With that being said, during my visit at Shinshu University, I got to observe multiple procedures I didn't get a chance to previously. From the morning case conferences, general ward work to surgical procedures, collectively are quite similar to those in Thailand, though minor differences in terms of hospital policy and culture are noticeable. Apart from academic perspectives, Japanese culture and nature in general are also memorable for me. As a doctor, communication skills are important. Being able to join with the team, I have learned greatly on how to communicate well. Not only does the skill improve patient-doctor relationships, but also potential international collaborations which further improve individual's understanding as well as sharing medical knowledge. Lastly, I would suggest anyone considering Shinshu University as an option for studying abroad. As they provide such a warm welcome and great hospitality, I genuinely believe students will enjoy their time here.
