Japanese language and Japanese studies(Matsumoto Campus)

This course is designed for regular international students of Shinshu University (mainly first-year undergraduate students). Registration is required in the same way as for regular courses. Credit approval is handled differently depending on the faculty or department, so please check the course requirement list or contact the faculty or department to which you belong. Exchange students and students in the Japanese Language and Culture Study Program (Nikken students) whose Japanese language proficiency is at the upper-intermediate level (above Level D of the Intensive Japanese Language Course) are also eligible to take this course. The course will be explained at the GEC's guidance and other meetings. If you have any questions, please contact the GEC.

Intensive Japanese Language Course for Short-Term Program Students (Matsumoto Campus)

This course is designed for exchange students at Shinshu University. Students will be placed into classes A through D according to the results of a placement test at the beginning of the semester. The course of study will be explained at the guidance of the GEC and other events. If you have any questions, please contact the GEC.

1 lesson lasts 90 minutes.
These lessons are intended for students registered at Shinshu University. Non-university members are not eligible to take these lessons.

Intensive Japanese Language Course(Matsumoto campus)

This course is designed for government-sponsored research students who will receive 6 months of preparatory Japanese language education after coming to Japan, and students who have studied Japanese but still have difficulty in taking classes and conducting research at the university. Face-to-face classes will be held at the Matsumoto Campus, and classes will be held jointly with the above-mentioned Intensive Japanese Language Course.

Applicants are required to submit an application form to the academic affairs section of their faculty (graduate school) prior to the start of the course. Please contact each faculty (graduate school) for the deadline.

About studying
Students will be divided into classes according to their Japanese language level.

Japanese Language Supplementary Classes (Nagano, Ueda and Ina campuses)

Supplementary Japanese language classes are available for international students who wish to study Japanese outside of the Matsumoto Campus. Courses are offered at the Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Textile Science, and Faculty of Agriculture. The number and frequency of classes depend on the campus.

There are many teaching materials for foreigners to acquire basic Japanese communication skills necessary for living and working in Japan. The site is operated by the Japan Foundation Japanese-Language Institute, Japan.

MARUGOTO+ (MARUGOTO Plus)

This is a site where you can learn Japanese language and culture according to the contents of "Marugoto: Japanese Language and Culture," the Japan Foundation's official Japanese language course book based on the JF Japanese Language Education Standards.

Japanese- Language Proficiency Test (JLPT)

The Japanese-Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) is a test that measures and certifies the Japanese language proficiency of non-native speakers of Japanese. It is administered by the Japan Educational Exchanges and Services and the Japan Foundation. There are five levels: N1, N2, N3, N4, and N5, with N5 being the easiest and N1 being the most difficult.

BJT Business Japanese Proficiency Test

The BJT Business Japanese Proficiency Test (BJT JLPT) is a test to evaluate communication skills in Japanese in a business setting. It is administered by the Japan Kanji Aptitude Testing Foundation. It is held twice a year in June and November. The test is graded into six levels (J1+, J1, J2, J3, J4, and J5) according to the score, and statistical processing is used to ensure that the ability is measured in the same way no matter when the test is taken. Since the test evaluates the Japanese language skills needed in actual business situations, studying for the BJT is also useful for employment.
