Establishment of International Associated Laboratory (LIA) with Lille 1 University, France

On July 3rd, Vice-President of Lille 1 University in France (Lille 1), Dr. Francois-Oliver Seys, Director of Centre de Recherche en Informatique, Signal et Automatique (CRIStAL), Dr. Oliver Colot, Associate Professor of CRIStAL, Arnand Liefooghe, Associate Professor of CRIStAL, Bilel Derbel, and a staff from Science and Technology Division of the French Embassy in Japan, Ms. Emma Scappacini visited Shinshu University (SU).
Lille 1 and SU have been actively engaged in research collaboration and exchange of students since the signing of the university-level MoU agreement for academic exchange between the institutions.
Both Lille 1 and SU established the LIA for the purpose of conducting cutting-edge research in the field of computational intelligence, i.e., information science, especially in the area of large-scale multiobjective optimization.
During the visit to SU, a signing ceremony for addendum to the MoU to establish the International Associated Laboratory was held. From SU, President Dr. Kunihiro Hamada, Director Prof. Soichiro Nakamura, Vice President Prof. Kiyoshi Tanaka attended the ceremony.
After the ceremony, Assistant Professor Kadota from Institute for Biomedical Sciences (IBS) gave a presentation regarding the cutting-edge medical research in IBS for the visitors.
Both Lille 1 and SU believe that the new establishment of LIA will further accelerate the academic exchange activities between both universities.
