Participation in the Japan-Korea Science and Technology Innovation Forum

On November 25, 2022, the 1st Japan-Korea Science and Technology Innovation Forum was held in Tokyo and Shinshu University President Soichiro Nakamura and Vice President Shinichi Yonekura (in charge of international strategy and planning) participated. This forum was newly established by the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Japan to build a foundation for science and technology cooperation between the two countries in order to solve global issues such as aging population, new infectious diseases, and climate change. The first forum brought together researchers in the field of bio-biotechnology from both countries.
Followed by an opening remarks and congratulatory speeches by the Korean Ambassador to Japan and Japanese representatives, a Special Agreement on Comprehensive Collaboration was signed by Pohang University of Science and Technology, Sungkyunkwan University, and Shinshu University. President Nakamura, who participated in the ceremony online, expressed his expectations for future collaboration on research.
At the forum, Honorary Professor Yoshinori Ohsumi of Tokyo Institute of Technology, winner of the 2016 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, gave a keynote speech, which was followed by presentations from each field and an exchanges of opinions.
Through research exchange between the two countries, we hope to promote solutions to issues from a global perspective.
