1. What made you come train at Shinshu University School of Medicine and how did you find the School through your stay?
I was drawn to Shinshu University due to its renowned expertise in Hematology-Oncology, particularly its pioneering clinical research in lymphoma and CAR-T cell therapy. My home university supervisor, familiar with their impactful publications and international collaborations, highly recommended it. During my stay, I found the School to be exceptionally welcoming and clinically rigorous. The faculty's dedication to both cutting-edge research and compassionate patient care deeply impressed me, exceeding my initial expectations of a highly specialized academic environment.

2. Please describe your training at host department/lab.
My training involved a balanced immersion in both clinical and research settings. Clinically, I actively participated in inpatient ward rounds with Dr. Makishima.H's team, observed shadowed bone marrow aspiration/biopsy procedures, and learned to analyze peripheral blood smears and pathology reports under supervision. I also attend to weekly journal and departmental seminars.

3. Please list what you have gained from your experiences through the training at Shinshu University and the stay in Matsumoto, Japan.
Clinical Skills: Enhanced practical understanding of hematological malignancies diagnosis and management, including novel therapies like CAR-T.
Medical Knowledge: Deepened knowledge in Acute Myeloid leukemia through direct patient exposure and academic discussions.
Cultural Competency: Developed greater sensitivity and adaptability working within the Japanese healthcare system and its cultural context.
Professional Network: Established valuable connections with leading clinicians and researchers.
Language Skills: Improved basic medical Japanese and communication strategies.

4. How do you think you can apply those experiences to your future career?
These experiences will be foundational. The advanced clinical insights directly inform my approach to diagnosing and managing hematologic cancers. Most importantly, the emphasis on meticulous patient care and teamwork observed at Shinshu will shape my clinical practice philosophy. The cross-cultural skills and adaptability gained are invaluable assets in our increasingly globalized medical field, enabling me to collaborate effectively with diverse colleagues and patients.

5. Advice to those who are interested in studying at Shinshu University
Prioritize Japanese and English language preparation, even basic proficiency dramatically enhances daily life and clinical engagement. Actively seek opportunities to observe and ask questions be proactive but respectful. Embrace the culture wholeheartedly; explore Matsumoto, try local foods, and engage with locals and fellow students. we are incredible resources. If you do not have a good level of Japanese, you can prepare a translator.
