Joint research groups, including Associate Professor Ryoichi Arai of the Institute for Biomedical Sciences and the Department of Applied Biology, Faculty of Textile Science and Technology at Shinshu University, Senior Assistant Professor Norifumi Kawakami and Professor Kenji Miyamoto of the Faculty of Science and Technology at Keio University, and Professor Masahide Kikkawa of the Graduate School of Medicine at University of Tokyo, have succeeded in elucidating the detailed conformation of the artificially designed protein nanoparticle “truncated icosahedral protein composed of 60-mer fusion protein” (TIP60) through single-particle cryo-electron microscopy analysis. TIP60 was found to be a characteristic icosahedral 60-meric porous hollow nanoparticle structure with 20 pores in an orthotriangular shape.
