A grand ceremony to celebrate the establishment of the Institute for Biomedical Sciences of the Interdisciplinary Cluster for Cutting Edge Research was held at the Matsumoto Campus of Shinshu University on May 25th, 2014.
Participating in the ribbon-cutting ceremony were University President Kiyohito Yamasawa, Dean of the School of Medicine Yoshimitsu Fukushima, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture Soichiro Nakamura, Dean of the Institute Naoto Saito, as well as Head of the Matsumoto City Health Industries Company Location Department from the locality of the School of Medicine Isao Hirao, Deputy Mayor of Ina City from the locality of the Faculty of Agriculture Shigeru Sakai, and other distinguished guests. Great expectations have been raised in the region.
At the commemorative ceremony, Institute Dean Professor Saito and the four other Department Heads shared their research ideals and mission of the Institute. Congratulatory speeches were given by Yasuhiro Itakura, Head of the Promotion Planning Division of the Research Promotion Bureau at the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology and other prominent attendees. Afterwards, a special inaugural lecture was given by Professor Naomichi Matsumoto of the Graduate School of Medicine of Yokohama City University entitled “Genome Analysis and Medical Treatment: Towards the Era of the $1,000 Genome”, which was keenly received by representatives from industry, academia, and government from both within and outside Nagano prefecture.
